Dana was born in Prague where she finished her Masters Degree in Architecture. In 1969 Dana & her husband Paul immigrated to Canada, settling in Toronto, where she worked in various architectural firms. In 1978, Dana took several textile courses at the Ontario College of Art and opened her textile art business “ARTACIOUS” specializing in handpainted silk fabrics and clothes. Artacious gradually grew into a company with seven employees supplying “art to wear” painted silk fashion to a loyal following of 300 retail stores and galleries across Canada and the United States. Demand for Dana’s painted silk scarves eventually stretched as far as England, Mexico and Japan. In 1997 a longtime love of the mountains caused Dana and Paul move to Canmore Alberta...and after 20 years “Artacious” returned back to a home studio format just as it had begun. Now Dana paints mostly in acrylics and mixed media. Dana was CAG Gallery director in 2004/5 and 2015/16 and CAG president in 2005/2006. She exhibits her pieces with CAG, Elevation Gallery, Odin Gallery, Bluerock Gallery, the Alberta Society of Artists, the Alberta Craft Council, the Ontario Craft Council, and the Federation of Canadian Artists. Dana won prizes for her art locally, nationally and internationally. In 2011, Dana was a recipient of the Mayor’s Award for the Arts in Canmore. Below is a brief video about Dana that was made for the awards.
