About Our Gallery and the Guild.
To stimulate activities in all creative visual arts and provide the vehicle to make the artist and artisan visible in the community. To encourage and promote professional exhibitions, amateur shows, and to create workshops to heighten the awareness of the creative visual arts.
The Canmore Artists and Artisans Guild (CAAG) was established in 1980 to advance the interests of artists in the Bow Valley. In 2012, CAAG changed its name to the Canmore Art Guild (CAG) with the following objectives:
To provide learning opportunities and stimulate activities in the creative visual arts;
To promote exhibitions of members’ artistic endeavours; and
To enhance community awareness of the creative visual arts.
In the early years, CAAG was allotted free gallery space over the library adjacent to the Seniors Centre. The library was relocated in 1995 and CAAG was given wall space in the area known as the Canmore Public Library Gallery. In March 2013, CAG moved to Elevation Place ad on 6 April 3013, CAG opened the doors to its new gallery with a special exhibition entitled “…On CAG! Celebrating the Canmore Art Guild.”
In addition to several Group Shows each year, CAG also hosts specialized shows such as:
Annual Photography Festival
Three Dimensional Art
Quilts by the Mountain Cabin Quilt Guild
Private Shows by Guild members
